Clemson vs. FSU Baseball

Clemson, S.C. –
The top of the first inning started like most recent Clemson games. Dane Moehler, getting his second straight Friday start, got his first out against John Stuetzer but shortly after allowed a single from Brayden Dowd to get things started for the Noles. Brody DeLamielleure grounded into a 6-3 out that advanced Dowd to third after a wild pitch from Moehler. Florida State scored the ensuing run after a bloop single from Hunter Carns to drop between Jason Fultz Jr. and Jack Crighton. Moehler was able to recover, striking out Nathan Cmeyla to end the inning.
The bottom of the inning was a strike-out party for the Noles with Mendes striking out Nate Savoie and Luke Gaffney in order. Jacob Jarrell was the first base runner of the game for the Tigers aBer reaching first on a 4-2 walk. McCladdie nearly left the park after hitting a rocket to left-center field for the third out.
Moehler continued to rock and roll in his second inning of work, striking out Gabe Fraser and Cal Fisher to go 1-2-3 for the first time in an inning since the Boston College series last weekend.
Mendes matched Moehler with his second inning, allowing only one hit to Jack Crighton and striking out Purify, Lichtenberger, and Fultz Jr. to end the inning.
Moehler was relieved by JusQn LeGuernic in the third inning after Moehler only pitched 31 times. Carter McCulley hit a single to start the inning and Brayden Dowd picked up his second hit of the day, advancing McCulley to third. Dowd scored on the next hit from DeLamielleure. Hunter Carns reached base again on another single to put the Seminoles up 3-0. Nathan Cmeyla hit a sacrifice fly to deep centerfield to score Carns from third. LeGuernic finally ended the inning aBer striking out Gabe Fraser.
Clemson finally scored its first run of the game on a Jacob Jarrell single to left field to score Bryce Clavon from third. Clavon stole two bases in the inning, grabbing second by a hand’s length and third with ease. FSU’s lead cut to 4-1 going into the fourth.
Just when it looked like momentum was finally shifting Clemson’s way, Florida State added to their damage, with Stuetzer leaving the park on a two-run bomb to increase the lead to 6-1.
Clemson got a run back in the boLom of the fourth after picking up back-to-back doubles, one from Purify and the other from Lichtenberger.
DeLamielleure snatched that run back immediately in the fifth, pushing the lead to 7-1. LeGuernic was able to limit the damage after Leg turns a roller up the middle to a 1-6-3 double play to end the inning.
Landon Fowler relieved LeGuernic to help get an easy inning for the Tigers’ defense.
Jack Crighton added to his hit total for the day, scoring McCladdie from second base after getting plucked on the knuckles three batters earlier. Fultz Jr. ended the inning after he popped into third base. Jacob Jarrell got the Tigers within three runs in the bottom of the seventh with a frozen rope to score Clavon.
Florida State scored once more aBer three scoreless innings, adding another run on a sacrifice fly from DeLamielleure in the top of the ninth. The inning was short-lived after Peyton Miller got a 6-3 groundout from Hunter Carns.
The Tigers almost saw magic happen in the bottom of the ninth. With the bases loaded and two outs, Tryston McCladdie stepped up to the plate. He took a 3-1 count to the absolute last strike when he hit a deep lineout to centerfield to wrap up the game.
Despite losing 8-4, the Tigers found a spark at the end of the game that could create momentum going into tomorrow’s game.
Pitching Woes Continue for the Tigers
After having another limited pitch count for Dane Moehler, Clemson played yet another bullpen game that saw issues progress through the night.
JusQn LeGuernic relieved Moehler aBer two innings of work and gave up six runs on seven hits, allowing two homers, one walked baLer, and three strikeouts. Despite never ge:ng going, LeGuernic remained in the game until the sixth inning.
Landon Fowler followed LeGuernic with two innings of relief work, allowing one hit and striking out two. Eston Simpson came in the eighth and delivered a one hit, one walk, no run inning to close the frame. Peyton Miller followed with a one unearned run coming from a wild pitch.
