Redshirt sophomore Chandler Fields will start at quarterback for the Ragin’ Cajuns this upcoming season. Louisiana head football coach Michael Desormeaux made the announcement in a press conference on Monday.
The anticipated announcement came after what had been described as a competitive and lengthy battle between Fields and Fresno State transfer Ben Wooldridge throughout Fall camp.
A Metairie native and graduate of Archbishop Rummel High School, Fields was the backup quarterback behind Levi Lewis last season and saw snaps in eight games. He completed nine of 13 passes for 106 yards and a touchdown during his playing time.
Fields is the first new starter to be named at the position since 2019, after Lewis exhausted his eligibility at the end of last season.
Louisiana opens its season at home against Southeastern Louisiana next Saturday at 6:00 CT. The game will also be streamed on ESPN+.
